Frequently asked questions

---

Do I have to pay for the dog's care?
No. RSR covers approved veterinary care and provides the essentials needed for your foster dog.

I've never fostered before. Can I still apply?
Absolutely. You don't need rescue experience. You need a safe home, willingness to learn, and patience with a dog who may need some time to settle in.

I already have dogs. Can I foster?
Possibly! We want to make appropriate matches based on the foster dog's known behavior and your household. Meet-and-greets may be required.

What about cats or kids?
Tell us about everyone living in your home when you apply. If we know a dog isn't appropriate for cats, children, or another situation, we're not going to intentionally place that dog in the wrong home.

How long will I foster?
It varies. Some dogs are adopted quickly; others need more time. We'll discuss what you're comfortable with before placement.

What if I need to go out of town?
Tell us as early as possible so we can work on appropriate temporary arrangements.

What if the dog isn't a good fit?
Tell us. Communication is huge. We would rather know there is a problem early so we can work with you on an appropriate solution.

Can I adopt my foster dog?
If you fall in love, contact RSR before making plans. Foster-to-adopt situations still need to go through RSR's adoption process.

Will I know everything about the dog before they arrive?
We'll tell you everything we reasonably know. But this is rescue, and sometimes the honest answer is we don't know yet. Many dogs come to us with limited histories. That's one of the reasons foster homes are so valuable—we learn who these dogs really are once they're safe and settled.
